NUSS AGM 2025: Reflections, Achievements, and the Road Ahead

The Della & Seng Gee Guild Hall at Kent Ridge Guild House was abuzz with energy on 25 April 2025 as about 140 members gathered for the NUSS Annual General Meeting (AGM). This year’s AGM held special significance, serving not only as a report card for the Society’s activities in 2024 – a milestone year marking NUSS’ 70th anniversary – but also as a springboard for new ideas and growth.

NUSS President Mr Tong Hsien-Hui opened the AGM with a fresh, narrative-style President’s Report, spotlighting key achievements in membership growth, vibrant society activities, impactful community initiatives, and deeper engagement with NUS and the alumni network.

Chairing the proceedings, Mr Tong led members through the Annual Report. Members shared their opinions on issues highlighted, particularly membership growth, retention strategies, and future engagement plans.

Past President Mr Chandra Mohan K Nair proposed expanding membership through automatic NUSS enrolment (opt-out after one year) and forming a Special Task Force to strengthen ties with NUS and other universities. Member Elizabeth Su noted his ideas were innovative but cautioned that pre-charging students for alumni membership would be challenging to implement, suggesting instead a focus on collaboration and strategic outreach.

  • Mr Lee Poh Joo Henry (newly elected)
  • Mr Nakoorsha Bin Abdul Kadir

  • Mr Jeffrey Khoo, for 14 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Society.
  • Mr Lee Hay Keong, for his meaningful contributions to Alumni Development and Finance, and his service on the Management Committee since 2021.
