SG60 and Beyond: Charting Singapore’s Next Chapter

In celebration of Singapore’s 60th anniversary of independence, NUSS, in collaboration with Oxford Alumni, hosted SG60 and Beyond — an evening of thought-provoking insights, engaging conversations, and forward-looking perspectives.

Held on 23 September 2025 at Suntec City Guild House’s Campus and College Rooms, the session brought together members, alumni, and subject-matter experts to examine critical issues shaping the future — from technology and society to the economy and sustainability.

A Dialogue on the Future
Moderator Ms Anthea Ong, social innovator and former Nominated Member of Parliament, opened the dialogue by inviting both the speakers and audience to reflect on Singapore’s future across these key areas. She also encouraged the panelists to share what SG60 meant to them personally, framing the discussion with a forward-looking lens.

Expert Perspectives
Mr Desmond Koh, CEO and Founder of Compassion Group, Olympian, and Rhodes Scholar, spoke on sports and social welfare. He reflected on how sport can create opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach, serving as a powerful platform to cultivate tenacity and build character beyond the sporting arena.

Dr Victor Tay, Managing Director at Stout and Chairman of the UN Global Compact M&A Advisory, addressed sustainability and climate change. He emphasised the importance of collaboration between businesses and communities in shaping a greener, more resilient future for Singapore and the region.

Mr Tong Hsien-Hui, President of NUSS and Executive Director of Investments at SGInnovate, explored emerging technology trends. He highlighted the need for  Singapore to nurture its own champions in Deep Tech, strengthening the national  resilience and independence in critical technologies for the decades ahead.

Engagement and Networking
The session continued with a lively Q&A session, where the audience posed thought-provoking questions to the speakers. The evening then concluded with a networking segment, offering members and alumni the opportunity to carry on the conversations in a more informal setting.

A full video recording of the discussion and Q&A will be uploaded to YouTube in the coming weeks — stay tuned to revisit the evening’s insights.
