It was a proud and meaningful occasion as NUSS conferred one of its highest distinctions — the Honorary Membership — upon Professor Tommy Koh and Dr Gerard Ee on 5 November 2025 at Kent Ridge Guild House. The conferment luncheon paid tribute to two outstanding individuals whose leadership and dedication have left an enduring mark on Singapore’s social, civic, and intellectual life.
In his welcome address, NUSS President Mr Tong Hsien-Hui expressed the Society’s deep appreciation for both recipients, acknowledging their lifelong service to the nation and their steadfast counsel to NUSS. As pioneering members of the NUSS Advisory Panel, established in 2008, Professor Koh and Dr Ee have guided the Society with wisdom, integrity, and purpose for over 17 years.
Professor Tommy Koh, one of Singapore’s most respected diplomats and public intellectuals, was recognised for his distinguished contributions to global diplomacy, environmental and maritime law, and for fostering a culture of dialogue and understanding. His long association with NUSS includes serving as Patron of the Paint-a-Portrait project, moderating the NUSS 60th Anniversary Lecture, and contributing to Commentary, the Society’s flagship journal of ideas.
Dr Gerard Ee, a chartered accountant and a steadfast advocate of good governance, was commended for his leadership in strengthening public trust across Singapore’s social and healthcare sectors. From the Charity Council and the Agency for Integrated Care to the National Council of Social Service, his work has advanced accountability, compassion, and community well-being.
Past Presidents Mr David Ho and Mr Johnny Tan delivered the citations for Professor Koh and Dr Ee respectively, sharing heartfelt reflections, personal anecdotes, and insights on their impactful leadership, service, and collaborations with them.
As the luncheon ended, members and guests warmly congratulated the two new Honorary Members — a fitting celebration of their integrity, humility, and enduring commitment to the ideals that NUSS upholds.
