Team NUSS triumphs in the Fourth Round of the 37th Inter-Club Balut Competition

On 23 August 2023, Della & Seng Gee Guild Hall at Kent Ridge Guild House was bustling with activity as the fourth round of the 37th Inter-Club Balut Competition took centre stage. Hosted by National University of Singapore Society (NUSS), this highly anticipated event drew a total of 76 passionate participants from six different clubs battling it out for the top titles and bragging rights. NUSS, Singapore Cricket Club, Tanglin Club, Singapore Khalsa Association, Eurasian Association, and Singapore Recreation Club all sent their best players to engage in the fourth leg of a six-round Balut competition.

Balut, a dice game that traces its roots to the end of World War II, has captured the hearts of gamers worldwide. Invented by American soldiers, this game combines luck and strategy as players roll dice to create effective combinations and earn points. In addition, achieving the elusive “balut,” a five-of-a-kind die throw during the game play would grant the player bonus points. The ultimate goal is to accumulate the highest number of points, with the player who amasses the most overall points emerging as the victor. The game’s blend of strategic thinking and a dash of luck, makes it a hit among players of different ages.

After a few hours of exciting game play, Team NUSS 1 emerged victorious on their home turf with an impressive combined total of 2,441 points. Congratulations to Mr Oon Tik Lee, Mr Krishnan Vijayan, Mr Mohan Balagopal, and Mr Lau Kwong Chung of Team NUSS 1 for clinching the top prize!

The Balut Section is eagerly preparing for the remaining two rounds of the 37th Inter-Club Balut Competition. Given their stellar performance and strong camaraderie, there’s no doubt that they would be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming rounds!
